With the holidays fast approaching, I always hear from parents asking me what sort of thing they could get for their favorite string players. The first thing I mention is an upgrade of instrument and or bow. If this is not feasible, smaller items like rosin, mutes, tuners, strings, shoulder rests, rock stops, and apparel make great gifts!

Carbon Fiber Bows for Beginning to Intermediate Players
One main advantage of carbon fiber bows over wood is durability. Wood swells and contracts on a daily basis, is susceptible to warping, fragile to breaking, and requires constant care and maintenance. Carbon-fiber is none of these things. Almost impossible to break to, carbon-fiber bows maintain the shape they were made in and can be cleaned with just about any material. In addition, you get a lot more performance for your money than if you spent the same on a wood bow.
